Composition and Manufacturing
Natural Rubber Base
Natural rubber is the primary component of these airbags. Harvested from rubber trees, natural rubber offers excellent elasticity, resilience, and tensile strength. Its molecular structure allows it to stretch under pressure and return to its original shape, which is crucial for the airbag's performance during inflation and deflation cycles.
Additives and Reinforcements
To enhance the durability and functionality of the airbags, various additives are incorporated. These may include antioxidants to protect against aging and degradation caused by exposure to sunlight, heat, and oxygen. Additionally, reinforcing materials such as synthetic fibers (like nylon or polyester) or natural fibers (such as jute) are often added to increase the airbag's strength and load-bearing capacity. The reinforcement is typically woven or laminated into the rubber matrix, creating a composite structure that can withstand the high pressures and forces encountered during salvage operations.
Working Principle
Buoyancy Generation
The fundamental principle behind the operation of natural rubber floating salvage air airbags is buoyancy. When the airbags are inflated with air, they displace a significant volume of water. According to Archimedes' principle, the buoyant force exerted on the airbags is equal to the weight of the water displaced. As multiple airbags are placed beneath or around a sunken vessel and inflated, the combined buoyant force can overcome the weight of the ship and any other resistive forces (such as suction to the seabed), gradually lifting the vessel to the surface.
Inflation and Deflation
Specialized inflation equipment is used to fill the airbags with air. This equipment can quickly and evenly inflate the airbags to the required pressure. Once the salvage operation is complete, the airbags are deflated using appropriate valves or release mechanisms. The deflation process allows for easy removal and storage of the airbags for future use.
